Electricians up in arms over fines

MASTER Electricians Australia has blasted "bureaucracy gone mad" after the Queensland Building Services Authority issued fines to electricians for performing work it says they were qualified and authorised to do.

Electricians had been fined $2000 for a technical loophole after installing solar hot water systems.

MEA chief executive Malcolm Richards said the electrical work had been done by licensed electricians, while the plumbing had been performed by a licensed plumber.
