UNITEDKINGDOM: Aston Ebro Building Building Services South has been awarded a 2.7M contract to provide extensive mechanical and electrical installations for the biomass plant and the specialist equipment. BBES will supply, install, test and commission mechanical and electrical services comprising small power, fire alarm and security systems, ventilation, heating, domestic water services, drainage, laboratory gases and building management system. Innovation will incorporate modularisation of risers, skid mounted plant and multi service modules. The plant will generate heat and power from biomass, including sewage sludge, wood, algae and agricultural waste. Works will commence in May and will be completed during winter 2012. This research will incorporate generating biomass by-products including hydrogen power for low carbon vehicles or fuel cells and Biochar for use as an agricultural fertiliser and a source for decentralised hydrogen production. 5m will take approximately 54 weeks to complete and will involve fitting the extensive mechanical and electrical installations essential for the biomass plant along with the specialist equipment required for its bioenergy research. John Sisk The facility, funded by Aston University as well as European Regional Development Fund, itself powered by renewable energy, will comprise of pilot scale photo bioreactors harnessing algae, and a 0. The project is aiming for a BREEAM very good rating and will incorporate sustainable aspects that will include a combined heat and power unit. Mark Slevin will manage the project works, supported by Paul Hughes, supported by the team from Solihull. |
