Super mum is switched on

Shelley Wolverson is thought to be the first local mum to graduate as an electrician in 15 years.

After a day's work, Shelley would arrive home to her family and take up her second job as a wife and mother, cooking, washing, cleaning and maybe studying.

"I became very efficient at 'cramming' before exams while the clothes were washing and the children were asleep.

There were some very trying times but through sheer determination and some family support, Shelley not only completed her apprenticeship in the required four years but passed all of the TAFE modules and received a number of Distinctions.

The achievement is significant because she has succeeded in what is still a male-dominated trade and graduated while bringing up two toddlers.

After four difficult years of juggling study and family life, Shelley Wolverson is now a fully qualified electrician and licensed electrical contractor.

"I commenced by apprenticeship when my children were very young," Shelley said.

"The eldest was two years old and the youngest only four months old.

It was a routine which continued into the weekend and through a series of notable family milestones such as sending her kids to pre-school and primary school.

Understandably her husband, Chris, and her children are really proud of Shelley's achievement.
